Adoptables Wednesday–Mack and Mia

We have a client who fosters Labrador Retrievers with Lab Rescue.  We are delighted to meet the dogs she fosters as they come to her home for some loving and then go to their new fur-ever homes.  Mack and Mia are the latest we had the privilege to visit with this week.  

This is Mia.  She is a sweet, gentle snuggle-muffin who enjoys just being with you. 


This is Mack.  He is a tennis-ball chasing, happy guy who oozes joy out of every bone in his body.  

This update is from our client, who is their foster:

“I think I have hit the foster lottery. When it comes to easy, these two top the list. Mack and Mia are snuggly, happy and affectionate and just as happy to curl up on the couch and snuggle all day long as they are to go for walks or play outside. I have been walking them together and they do great. Mia and Mack are house trained and crate trained. They know their commands such as sit, stay, down and shake hands.

They both ride amazingly in the car! They both settled relatively quickly into my house. Both are very loving and sweet. Mia is a big lug of love. She is very low key. Mack has more energy and is willing to play whenever. When he found the tennis ball in my house, he acted like he had been reunited with a lost friend. Mack and Mia get along and are clearly bonded. Mia loves to be petted and loved on, while Mack loves to retrieve the ball, but he is a great snuggler when it comes to love time. They are great dogs and will make their new family very happy. They balance each other out perfectly.”

Hi, my name is Elton. I am a mutt! I am such a love! I get along great with other dogs and I try so hard to please. I love to snuggle and am working hard on my potty training. I do well if I can make it out at regular times.
I am between 1 and 2 years old and…yes! I have been neutered and am up-to-date on my shots. I am microchipped and heart worm  and Lyme negative.  I so want a home of my own. That would be my wish…oh and I love to play tug and drag a blanket around. I am a kissing machine and will love you forever

Hi everyone!! I’m Chloe! I LOOOOOOOVVVEEE to roll around in the grass, like I really, really, really do! Come meet me and take me on a walk!
I’m about 2yrs old and I listen well to commands like “sit” , “look”, “stop” and “wait”. I am house trained and very tidy with my bed, too. 
I really like going on walks and have lots of energy, do you? We should meet and go on a hike together!
Chloe is up-to-date on all vaccines, microchipped, heart worm negative, de-wormed, flea-free and spayed.

Take Your Dog to Work Day

Wednesdays around here are typically reserved for “Adoptables”.   But, when I realized that Take Your Dog to Work Day celebrated dogs AND adoption…well. 

Pet Sitters International, the world’s largest educational association for professional pet sitters, (Barks and Blooms is a member) started Take Your Dog to Work Day in 2007 to celebrate dogs, to encourage adoption from humane societies, shelters, and rescue clubs.

This year, the 15th annual TYDTWD is Friday, June 21.  If your business is participating, let us know about it!

Wednesday Adoptables–Meet Xander!!

This week we are highlighting the Most Excellent Xander who is available for adoption from Lab-Rescue.  There are many labs there who can be fostered and adopted; or if you can’t do those, you can sponsor!  Give them a call at  (301) 299-6756.


Xander is a 4 year old neutered black male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm positive; Lab Rescue will pay for his treatment. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 45 lbs. He knows some commands including sit and is working on down but would benefit from some additional training. He walks ok on a lead but does better with an EZ Walk harness. He is gentle and friendly and adores people.

Update from Xander’s foster family:

Xander has settled in nicely here. He loves to play with my two labs and has good house manners. He is housebroken and crate trained. He is gaining weight nicely and has a wonderful appetite. He is very sweet and affectionate and good on leash too. He rides well. Xander loves balls and toys and will play as long as you will let him! He has to carry a ball or toy around in his mouth all the time. It is very cute. He is not destructive of toys at all, he just loves to carry them around! He really has a great personality and is getting more handsome every day as he gains weight. Just thought I would share this funny video with you. This is how he lets us know that they are all ready to come back in the house LOL. He is like “Hey! Whatcha doing in there? Come let us in!” It is too cute!

Adoptables Wednesday–Meet Misty!

Misty is a 9 year old black spayed female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs but not cats, and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. She weighs 47 lbs and should gain a few. Misty is a very sweet, friendly and gentle girl who has no idea she is 9!

Update from Misty’s foster family – 5/2/2013

Misty has only been with us for a few days, but she has settled into our household routine quickly. On our very first walk together she was excited and did lots of sniffing and pulling. By the morning walk the next day she had improved dramatically and by the evening she was walking nicely. She adapted well to the Easy Walk harness. She has reacted, with a great deal of excitement, to squirrels that we have seen and would give chase if I let her go. She notices birds and reacts with interest to them also. Since the weather was so nice the second evening she was with us, we decided to take Misty and the resident Lab out to dinner at an outdoor cafe in our neighborhood. Both girls were extremely well behaved even with other dogs and diners nearby. Misty is people oriented and loves to snuggle and be stroked and petted. She especially loves belly rubs and will roll onto her back, with her legs straight up in the air, and wiggle her whole body, just begging you to rub her belly. Her tail is like a metronome, going back and forth all the time. In fact the most noise we’ve heard from her is the tail thumping on the wall. We have yet to hear her bark. At night she sleeps loose in the bedroom, alternating between a dog bed and the floor. So far her manners have been good. She is very food motivated and is a quick and eager learner. In the house, and in the fenced yard, she will usually come quickly when called. She enjoys being near you. If you’re looking for a loving and devoted companion with a sweet personality and pleasant energy level Misty may be the girl for you. With Mother’s Day fast approaching Misty asked me to mention that she since has been a mother several times she is hoping that someone will now honor her with a permanent loving home where she can be showered with love on May 12.

Wednesday Adoptables! Meet Wonderful Alice

Alice is a 7 year old black spayed female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs and cats, and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. She weighs 58 lbs. Alice is energetic, but does not pull on a leash. She likes cats, and enjoys playing with them. She has a good temperament and is curious to meet other dogs.

Update from Alice’s foster family 4/24/2013

Alice is a sweet, affectionate girl, who enjoys hanging out with her humans. She loves to cuddle up with her foster while watching TV or reading. She passed her first home alone test today, alone for 5 hours with free reign in the house and passed with flying colors. We think she napped the entire time. She has a wonderful temperament, likes to play but knows how to entertain herself when told to go lay down. She sits for treats and her meals. She’s a petite girl, who would make a great city dog, as she walks great on a easy walk harness around the neighborhood and wags her tail whenever she spots a human who may give her some attention. A great gal!

Wednesday Adoptables! Meet Spooky and Spanky

Spanky is a darling 10 month old little boy who has had a rough life so far, to say the least. He came to FARM with his mom Spooky after being in a deadly house fire. He was just a young kitten at the time. From there, he was at animal cont rol, and then went on to a foster home. To make matters worse, this little baby was missing an eye when we got him, and was suffering from an infection where his eye used to be. We had him neutered, had his eye socket flushed, and sutured closed to prevent further infection. He is current on all vaccines. As you can imagine, he is a bit shy, but such a little sweetheart! He is very bonded to his mom Spooky, so they must be adopted together. They are currently living at Feed Plus and when Spanky was in his foster home, he was able to come out of his shell. Please share, or if you think you can provide Spanky and his mom the loving, safe and stable forever home they deserve, come by and meet them at Feed Plus!

Adoptables–Trinket

Hi! I’m Trinket!! 

I’ve had a few tough moments in my life, but I am hoping my luck has turned and that I will find a loving home where I can get better and heal. Even though I have had some hard times, somehow I have managed to keep myself upbeat and full of love, and this is what has helped save me. And since I am GREAT with kids– as you can see in the picture– and good with other dogs– I hope this will help me find my forever family. 


You may be wondering what makes me a “special needs” pup… Well hopefully this will be temporary. I arrived to Animal Control with a very visible leg deformity, and so I wasn’t really high on their ” fit to be adopted out” list, and then when the shelter became full, I almost ran out of time. Lucky for me, volunteers noticed me and my sparkling personality and campaigned hard to save my life… I almost became a Facebook celebrity, if I may say because they felt so strongly that I deserved a chance. 


And thanks to all their hard work and all the wonderful people, I am here today!! 


The good news is that, my care taker and rescue took me to have X-rays done of my leg and they firgured out it isn’t a deformity that is wrong with my leg! They learned that my elbow was broken as a puppy and unfortunately my leg was never reset, so it healed back funny. The doctors say my leg can be fixed and my friends are raising the money to have it done. I do have to admit, it doesn’t feel very good to walk like this, and it does hurt, but I try to ignore it and stay happy and upbeat, because I do realize I am still a lucky pup! However I would really LOVE to have my leg fixed so that I can walk and run like the other dogs do. And that is what I am hoping for– I cannot have my surgery until I am in a furever home that is willing to help me with recovery. Until that happens, I have to wait for my surgery! (The surgery and follow up visits is fully covered by my caretaker– so don’t worry about that! I just need a forever family to help me heal!)


A little more about me: I’m about 2 1/2 year old girl, who is great with children of all ages and good with other dogs. I love attention to myself though, so may do better as an only dog in a home setting. I’m told, I’m sweet as pie and hope that you will consider welcoming me in your family, help me get my surgery so I can be a normal pup!
